Eileen and Jared

Current Waiting Family

Dear Birthparents,

Hello!  We would like to thank you very much for taking the time to look at our book and getting to know us a little bit better.  We hope we will have a chance to meet with you in person!
We cannot put into words the respect and admiration we have for you in making an adoption plan for your child.

You may be wondering why we are planning to adopt. At age 16 Eileen found out she had Turner’s syndrome. Turner’s syndrome is a chromosomal abnormality which affects the X chromosome and as a result she is infertile. Because she has known since she was a teenager, adoption has always been in the back of her mind as a way to grow a family.  Jared has always been very supportive and is excited about adopting.

After we started with Boys and Girls Aid in the process of adopting an infant and we had been in the waiting pool for about a year and a half, Eileen’s cousin asked if her two children, David and Jocelyn, could come live with us.  She was going through a tough time and we were happy to help her and care for these two amazing children.  At this time we took a break from being in the pool to focus on David and Jocelyn.

We kept in close contact with Eileen’s cousin and after about a year Eileen’s cousin decided that it was best for her children to be adopted by us.  Since the adoption was finalized we have been so happy to grow as a family.  We have also been thrilled to see the change in Eileen’s cousin.  We see her quite a bit and she seems very relaxed and happy when she is with us.
We are so excited to have started our family with David and Jocelyn.  However, the dream of having a baby has not changed.  We still long for this and have been waiting for this for a very long time.  What you would be giving us is an incredible gift.

About Us

Even though we went to the same high school at the same time, we did not know each other and did not start dating until after we were out of high school.  We met at a St. Patrick’s Day party in 2007 and became inseparable almost immediately.  We were married on August 8th 2009 in the backyard of Eileen’s parents’ home.

We love to be outdoors.  In the summer we love to barbeque, camp, hike and swim.  In the winter we like to snowshoe and ski.  We also love to travel and see new places.  We have been known to go on unplanned road trips and have taken roads, just to see where they take us.  David and Jocelyn have loved joining us in these adventures!

Jared is a landscaper and has owned his own business for the last five years.  He partnered with Eileen’s brother two years ago and together they have built a very successful business.  Eileen does the accounting and paperwork for the business.  She is also a nanny for two of our nieces, ages 5 and 8.

We both value education and see it as a lifelong endeavor. We also feel that much of learning happens outside the classroom walls. Eileen has a master’s degree in education with a special education endorsement from Washington State University.  Jared attended two years of college at Clark College in Vancouver, Washington.  Because of his entrepreneurial spirit, he wanted to start his landscaping business sooner than later.  We plan to support our children in their interests and encourage them follow their dreams and passion. We plan to help them in making the best decisions for their future.

Eileen about Jared

Jared is someone who has a zest for life.  He likes to have fun and doesn’t take himself too seriously.  He loves to try new things and have new experiences.  He has really opened up my world and boosted my confidence so I am not intimidated to try new things. For example, exploring a different trail on a snowmobile or trying a new fun and different restaurant.  Jared is also a very motivated and hard worker. This has been proven over and over again with the landscaping business, not only is he a very good salesman, but also good at the hard, back-breaking landscaping work as well.
Jared would do anything to help his family and friends.  He is family oriented and will be an amazing role model for our children.  He will be able to show our children through his actions how to love and respect others.
It has been amazing to see Jared change into a father over the last year.  He has so much fun with them.  He loves teaching the kids new things and experiencing things with the kids.  He has really impressed me with how he guides the kids and gets them excited about trying things and doing things with passion.

Jared about Eileen

Eileen has so many great qualities; she is caring, loving, empathetic, optimistic and bright.  She genuinely wants to help people and would drop anything she is doing to help someone out at any time of the day or night.
Eileen encouraged me to go after my dream and start the landscaping business. In the beginning it was difficult and she motivated and encouraged me to keep on trying.  I know I could not have made it to where I am now without her support.  I am very excited to see what our future holds.
Eileen is attentive and caring with our children.  She is a teacher at heart, so she always seems to be putting an educational spin on things when she is playing with them.  I’ve watched Eileen step up to the role of mother quite nicely and comfortably over the last year.  She has really shown that she was born to be a mother. I can’t wait to adopt a baby with her and grow our family just a bit more!

Our view on Openness

We are excited to see what kind of relationship we will have with the birth family of our child. We see the benefits of an open relationship, the more people to love the child the better. We would be comfortable to a range of openness, from visits, to updates via pictures and letters and/or emails.

We are extremely ready to be parents of an infant and have been looking forward to it for a long time. Thank you very much for considering us.
We wish you the best!
