Boys & Girls Aid Named Among Oregon’s 100 Best Non-Profits

image

Last month, the Portland Business Journal launched an ambitious new project ranking the 100 best non-profit organizations to work for in Oregon. Boys & Girls Aid is proud to announce our presence on that list. We placed 26th in the category reserved for large organizations (those with 75 or more employees).

The Journal has organized a similar publication, ranking for-profit companies, for seventeen years. Non-profits represent the fourth largest employer in the nation, and in Oregon alone, there are more than 25,000 non-profits operating. Given these facts, the Journal felt it was time to provide the community with information about…

this important and influential sector.

More than 6,700 employees and 200 non-profits participated in the free, voluntary survey. Organizations ranged from faith-based groups to professional associations to charitable organizations such as Boys & Girls Aid. To participate, an organization must employ ten or more individuals and possess non-profit status in the state of Oregon.

The rankings were compiled by an anonymous survey of fifty questions. Employees ranked non-profits in categories including: benefits and compensation, work environment, decision making and trust, performance management, and career development.

Treating employees with fairness and respect, and providing them with challenges and opportunities, is a value that Boys & Girls Aid has always held in high esteem.  But in this moment when many organizations, especially non-profit organizations, are being pummeled by an ailing economy, employee satisfaction is of critical importance. According to the Journal, “Workplace satisfaction helps retain the best employees, cuts turnover costs, boots productivity and creativity, and give organizations a competitive edge.”
