Becoming a parent may be a good choice for you if:

  • You have considered how making a parenting plan will affect your personal development and goals for the future.
  • You believe you are ready to assume the responsibility of parenting this child.
  • You are committed to, and can provide a healthy, stable family for this child over the next 18 years.
  • You are prepared to meet the financial responsibilities of parenting this child over the next 18 years.
  • You have the ability to obtain medical care, food, clothing, and housing for this child.
  • You have considered that parenting will connect you to the birth father and his family for life.
  • You believe you can live with the physical and emotional aspects of pregnancy and delivery.
  • You are prepared to handle the emotional aspects of making a parenting plan and can ask for help if you need it.
  • You have discussed your need for support with those who care about you, such as your partner, your family or your friends.
  • You have considered the feelings of your partner and your family.
