Boys & Girls Aid owns and operates five facilities: our headquarters in SW Portland, the Safe Place for Youth shelter in Hillsboro, the Pettygrove Residential house in Northwest Portland and two shelters (one for boys and one for girls) in Southeast Portland. The purchase, renovation, and maintenance of each facility is made possible in part by the generous support of donors like you.
Staying Here to Get There
In January of 2009, Boys & Girls Aid seized an opportunity to serve more than 400 additional youth each year. Two new facilities, each in Southeast Portland were purchased. These buildings serve as a new shelter for boys, and a new shelter for girls. In addition, we purchased a home to move our Pettygrove program that is more suitable to the girls’ needs and the program’s design.
Boys & Girls Aid established a capitol fundraising goal of just over $2 million dollars. Currently, we are more than halfway to goal, with $800,000 left to raise.
The Girl Power Committee
A rotating cast of highly dedicated women philanthropists and community leaders make up our Girl Power Committee. The committee hosts meetings and informational and networking events with the goal of raising visibility and funds to support the Building Futures Campaign.
Specifically, the group focuses on the needs of our Pettygrove Program which currently operates in a Northwest Portland home. The aging turn-of-the-century building presents obstacles to programmatic success and so the program will soon transition to a new facility that better meets the needs of the young women in the program.
The Safe Place for Youth Shelter opened its doors to support homeless and runaway youth in Hillsboro in 2007. Since that time more than 500 youth have been served.
A successful capitol campaign raised funds in advance of construction of the Safe Place facility, but an additional $185,000 is needed in order to complete our goal.
