The Mentor Portland Difference

How do we know that Mentor Portland really works? Nationally only 50% of mentoring relationships last a year or more. At Mentor Portland, our number is 80%. This difference puts us at the top of the list for effective mentoring programs.

Mentors commit 6 hours a month for a minimum of one year to a single mentee. Mentors and mentees are carefully matched by our trained staff. The pair are introduced to each other at a matching ceremony that includes group games and dinner which lays the foundation for building a connection.  Once pairs are matched, they schedule one-on-one time together according to their own schedules.  The pairs can also attend monthly group activities organized by Mentor Portland staff that strengthens their relationship while having a lot of fun.  Along the way, Mentor Portland staff are available to offer support and training.

Why Mentor Portland is Different

In our unique program structure, mentors and mentees are encircled by our mentor community that supports their success.  The mentors start out with a solid foundation built on effective training. Once matched, Mentor Portland staff stay connected, by planning monthly group activities, championing your successes and helping you through the rough patches.

The program is designed around lots of opportunities for pairs to meet and have fun together.  Shared experiences build confidence and connection between a mentor and mentee. One of our most popular group activities is a weekend camp at YMCA Camp Collins. Here mentees and mentors not only share a traditional camp experience, but they also strengthen their relationship by participating in an outdoor challenge course facilitated by Team Synergo, a company that provides professional experiential outdoor learning activities for youth and adults. Pairs describe camp as an unforgettable experience!
