Become a Boys & Girls Aid Foster Parent

You’ve read about the urgent need for foster parents. You’ve visited our website and learned about the qualifications and the rewards associated with becoming a foster parent at Boys & Girls Aid. And you’re ready to get started helping children in your community. What next?

Step One

Contact our .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) by phone at 503.542.2301. They will conduct an initial screening conversation.

Step Two

If you meet our initial screening requirements, our Outreach Coordinator will invite you to a monthly information session or schedule a personal one-on-one meeting to share more about our foster care programs.  This meeting allows us to get to know you better and gives you the opportunity to ask our staff questions about foster parenting.

Step Three

Complete and submit our Foster Care Application. You may return your completed form to:

Step Four

The foster care team will review your application.

Step Five

If your application is approved, the Outreach Coordinator will contact you with information on beginning the background check process and submitting your fingerprints.

Step Six

Once we have received your fingerprint card and submitted your background check, you will be invited to attend training sessions designed to give you the tools you need to become successful.

Step Seven

A clinician will contact you to set a time to begin the certification process. This includes paperwork and an in-depth interview and home visit to make sure you are ready to welcome a foster child.

Step Eight

Congratulations! After you have successfully completed all of the paperwork, passed the criminal history check and had your homestudy completed, you will become a certified foster parent for Boys & Girls Aid.
