that each night, about 7,000 Oregon children are in foster care.
Dear Birthparent,
Thank you for taking the time to look through our book and getting to know our family. We value and respect your decision to make an adoption plan for your child. You probably want to know all about us so hopefully this will answer some questions.
We married in 2008 on our street where we met after being in a committed relationship for three years. Our relationship is founded on love and respect for one another.
Don is 33 years old and works at an air freight company and owns several rental properties. Don enjoys working on houses, building projects, and fishing. Don is sweet, funny, and outgoing. Don likes exploring places and trying new activities. Don enjoys swimming, hiking and camping. Don volunteers in his son’s classroom twice a week. Don is a very dedicated and loving father.
Lanette is 32 years old and works as a child and family therapist at a local non-profit agency as well as in private practice for mental health. Lanette enjoys playing board games, video games, and snowboarding. Also, Lanette plays both indoor and outdoor soccer on a regular basis. Lanette has formed close friendships with her soccer teammates over the past 12 years of playing together. Lanette volunteers with Big Brothers/Big Sisters and has been matched with her “little” for 3 years. Lanette is compassionate and shows unconditional love towards Ethan since the beginning of their relationship.
Ethan is Don’s 7 year old biological son from a previous relationship. Ethan is with us about three days a week. Ethan is a sweet and loving seven year old who is in first grade. Ethan enjoys spending time with family and with friends. Ethan recently learned about Star Wars and is hooked! Ethan enjoys playing at home, going to parks, exploring the city, swimming, being an assistant cook, playing with toys, riding bikes, and playing with the dogs.
Which leads us to the four legged family members: Jackson and Dakota. Jackson is a 10 year old boarder collie/blue healer who is a bit naughty. Jackson will often try to sneak any available food and wants to be first for everything. Dakota is a 12 year old golden retriever but still runs around like a puppy. Dakota will try to swim any chance he gets. All the dogs do well with Ethan and other children.
As a family, we enjoy both indoor and outdoor activities together. We enjoy going on walks, riding bikes, visiting parks, swimming, exploring OMSI, skiing and snowboarding up on the mountain, going to the beach, playing with our dogs, and playing lawn games. Don and Ethan like to go fishing. As for indoor activities, we enjoy playing board games, art projects, watching movies, playing video games, and making up games to play with each other.
At least twice a year we have two “big” family vacations. This past year we went on a week long cruise to Mexico and a week long camping trip in Southern Oregon. We also have 2 annual camping trips with close friends and an annual ski trip. We also like to take mini-weekend vacations to the beach or camping in the woods.
We are excited to expand our family through adoption. Ethan is very excited about having a little brother in his life. We plan to raise our child with the same amount of love, patience, acceptance, and respect as we do Ethan. We promise to raise our children with love, support, praise and encouragement. As parents, we love and respect all members in our family.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and looking through our family book.
Sincerely,
Lanette, Don and Ethan
