Mentor Portland

image

It is with great sadness to announce that Mentor Portland will be closing its program as of September 30th, 2010. In the current economic climate, Boys &Girls Aid has been unable to attract adequate funding to maintain this high quality program.

Over the years, Boys & Girls Aid staff and mentors have provided a unique mentoring experience for more than 400 Portland area children. The program has been recognized nationally as an exemplary program. In the past, we were awarded federal grants to serve children most in need, those of with incarcerated parents and children in foster care. Mentor Portland outcomes have exceeded mentoring standards both locally and nationally.

Even with this success, we have struggled to find sustained funding for the program. Therefore, the leadership of the agency has made the difficult decision to close Mentor Portland. If you would like to read more about this closure, please see the message to our community from Executive Director Michael Balter.

We welcome your interest and encourage you to continue exploring the opportunity of mentoring. To learn more about other mentoring opportunities in Portland, please contact Oregon Mentors.
