Transitional & Independent Living Programs

image

At Boys & Girls Aid, it is always our first hope to connect youth in our care with permanent homes and permanent families. Sometimes this means adoption and sometimes this means working to reunite youth with biological family members. But for some youth in our care, adoption or family reunification is not possible, or not the best option.

For these youth, we offer transitional and independent living programs. These programs provide housing, education, and assistance to young people as they move towards living on their own.

What Kind of Help do these Young People Receive?

There are a number of transitional and independent living programs run by Boys & Girls Aid. Depending on the particular needs of each young person, the program may provide:

  • Housing—in a certified foster home, a group facility operated by Boys & Girls Aid, or an apartment
  • One-on-one case management and an individualized treatment plan
  • Individual and group counseling and skill building
  • Access to mental health and substance abuse treatment
  • Help getting a GED or diploma
  • Help finding and maintaining employment and career planning
  • Extensive skills training in areas like self care, education and vocation, relationship building, nutrition, anger management, money management, etc.
